Hi, I’m River (he/they), a Queer/Trans tattoo artist at Better Days Tattoos in Sacramento, CA.

I’ve been tattooing for over a year and apprenticing for two under the guidance of my mentor, Chy (@unsaid_ink), since February 2023. Art has always been a fundamental part of my self-expression, and my work draws heavily from dark, gothic, and Slavic folklore influences.

Being Ukrainian and growing up as a closeted queer kid in an extremely conservative community, art became my escape—my way of finding self-acceptance. Leaving my old community was a shift, but one that gave me the space to grow into the person I want to be, living on my own terms.

Tattooing, to me, is more than just an art form—it’s an act of self-love and body reclamation. Whether it’s a tiny filler piece or a large-scale scar cover-up, every tattoo holds significance. I strive to create a space where my clients can feel safe, seen, and celebrated. It’s about trust, collaboration, and making sure every person who sits in my chair knows they’re in a space that honors their authenticity.
